Japanese Calligraphy: Experience the core of Japanese culture!

In a beautiful Japanese house near the Kenrokuen park, learn to draw characters and seal your Kanazawa experience on a fan that will stay with you forever!

Is there something more quintessential to experience in Japan than calligraphy? Once the hardened ink from the inkstick is

liquified, unroll a piece of paper, hold it in place with paper weights and gently dip the brush in the inkstone. From there,

concentration is key. Essentially, Japanese characters are a succession of strokes. Brush strokes however can’t be corrected,

and a lack of confidence is sure to show up on the paper. To let the brush flow fluidly, the mind must be cleared from any

interferences; at its core, Japanese calligraphy is also deeply influenced by Zen…

A mere 5 minutes away from the Kenrokuen Garden, Sofuan Kenrokumotomachi is one of many beautifully Japanese houses

in Kanazawa that you can also get a chance to experience the “way of calligraphy” there. The English-fluent manager, versed

in both calligraphy and tea ceremony will prepare everything for you to make the best of the time you will be spending there.

Upon choosing a Japanese character that matches your taste, feel free to use as much paper as you want to practice. At some

point you will finally begin to release your mind, let the brush loose and draw those harmonious strokes on a fan that you can

keep as a souvenir of your time in Sofuan!
