Easy and fun! A glass etching hands-on just a few minutes’ walk from Kenrokuen Garden

Making use of the sandblasting technique, this make your own glass hands-on will have you carving your name and a design of your own on a glass cup or a hanko seal

Still have an hour to kill after visiting Kanazawa’s Kenrokuen Garden, before going back to your accommodation? Why not walk a few steps further to the Ishikawa Local Products Center where you can enjoy a great deal of hands-on experiences that echo the city’s excellence in crafts. From a sample of glasses and seals, all made according to the Eco glass technique and showcasing specific finishing details and characters, choose the piece that suits you as well as the fonts, characters and designs to engrave. From then, the content of the workshop is quite simple, consisting of removing from an adhesive strip all the parts corresponding to the letters and characters which will be sandblasted later on using a machine you will be operating yourself.

Sandblasting creates a nice frosted look by scarring the glass surface with fine grains of sand propelled by compressed air. Since no heating nor cooling is required during the process, this workshop is perfectly safe and allows you to take your own creation home with you as soon as it's done.
