A traditional Wagashi Japanese sweet workshop only two minutes from Kenrokuen Garden (reservation required)

A very popular hands-on experience, including a shopping ticket to be used for the many products offered by the facility!

Once the capital of a powerful feudal clan, Kanazawa is deeply steeped in samurai culture, of which the art of the tea ceremony is a powerful marker. It is therefore quite natural that the "wagashi" industry developed in Kanazawa, since these delicious and charming Japanese pastries were traditionally served during the tea ceremony. At the Ishikawa Local Products Center, just a couple of minutes away from Kenrokuen Garden, you can discover the basics of wagashi confectioning by making yourself three seasonal pastries, using traditional tools and ingredients under the guidance of an experienced wagashi master. Following his handling on a screen, you will gradually get used to the basic actions in the process and be amazed by the variety of items that can be created, as witnessed by the stunning “wagashi art” creations displayed in the room. At the end of the workshop, you can indeed take your three handmade wagashi with you, as well as one made by your instructor. You will also be given a shopping ticket that can be used for the many products offered by the facility. Fun and accessible, this workshop is very popular so be sure to make a reservation in advance.
