This is a program designed to learn techniques for cultivating mindfulness and integrating them into daily life. Set in the tranquil surroundings of Shukubo Shinsen's facilities and the rich natural and cultural environment of Kanazawa.
The Shinsen Retreat Program focuses on learning mindfulness-based techniques to cultivate the mind and apply them to everyday life. Located at Hokkuji Temple, established by the Meiji-era calligrapher Kitagata Shinsen, the program takes place amidst the peaceful facilities of Shukubo Shinsen and the abundant nature and culture of Kanazawa, allowing participants to proceed at their own pace.
Program Features:
Lecture Videos and Original Booklets:
We provide lecture videos (approximately 15 minutes in total, with English audio and Japanese script) that explain practical mindfulness techniques in an easy-to-understand manner, along with a booklet to support your learning.
By accessing the videos through the links in the booklet, you can practice mindfulness while exploring Kanazawa. This allows you to learn at your own pace and deepen your understanding even while traveling.Applying Mindfulness in Daily Life:
The videos teach various mindfulness techniques, which participants can practice while enjoying Kanazawa's attractions based out of Shinzen Hall. Experiences such as visiting the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, D.T. Suzuki Museum, Kenrokuen Garden, and Kanazawa Castle allow participants to cultivate their minds amidst the changing seasons.Scientifically Based Retreat:
Studies from U.S. universities have shown that groups practicing mindfulness achieve a more ideal state of brain activity compared to those merely relaxing. This program incorporates scientific evidence and original Buddhist teachings to provide practical skills for stress management, not just relaxation.
