Kanazawa City Fire Fighting New Year's Ceremony
Kanazawa's annual New Year's tradition
The Kaga-tobi were a group of elite firefighters during the Edo period. Their legend is borne into the present day by the Kanazawa firefighters. Every year to celebrate the new year, the city's firefighters put on a show of acrobatic stunts performed on forty-plus tall ladders with a stunning finale wherein they unleash a torrent of water into the air using firehoses.
