Katamachi Christmas Tree / "Yukitsuri" Illumination
A giant illumination that “has two faces”, unique to Kanazawa
A fir tree with a height of about 9m appears in the plaza of the Katamachi Kirara shopping center, located in the center of Kanazawa. In the period before Christmas it's decorated as the Katamachi Christmas Tree, and then it's transformed into a "Yukitsuri" illumination until Valentine's Day. The Christmas tree is decorated with a star-shaped ornament at the top and spherical ornaments all over, and about 20,000 white, champagne, and red LED bulbs are lit. For the "Yuki-tsuri" illumination, about 10,000 white LED light bulbs are used to illuminate the whole tree with snow particles, and a gardener creates beautiful "yukitsuri" using the traditional technique seen on Kenrokuen's pine trees and elsewhere (ropes and bamboo are positioned to protect the trees from heavy snow).
