Yome-zaka Slope (Bride’s Slope)
A Historical Path Connecting Generations and Landscapes
Yome-zaka is a historic slope that descends from the edge of the Kodatsuno plateau towards the Honda-machi district. Its name, literally translating to "Bride’s Slope," carries a touching story from the early Edo period (17th century).
Historical Origin
According to local legend, the path was originally commissioned by SHINOHARA Dewa-no-kami, a high-ranking retainer of the Kaga Domain whose residence was located atop the Kodatsuno plateau.
When his daughter was to be married to HONJO Shume, whose estate lay at the foot of the slope in Honda-machi. This path was created out of a father’s deep affection, with the hope that his daughter could easily travel back and forth between her new home and her family estate after her marriage.
