All Things Nara Exhibition

The Extraordinary Buddhist Art Collection of the Nara National Museum

Since its opening in 1895, the Nara National Museum has been widely known by the nickname “Nara-Haku” (Nara Expo), especially for its efforts to preserve and exhibit Buddhist art from the temples and shrines of Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. In 2021, “Nara-Haku Zanmai : Jewels of the Nara National Museum” was held, tracing the 1,400-year history of Japanese Buddhist art through a selection of the museum's collection and presenting the full appeal of the Buddhist art collection. The exhibition attracted many visitors with its simple, easy-to-understand explanations and friendly exhibits, which emphasized the viewer's perspective on Buddhist art, which can seem intimidating or difficult at first glance.

This exhibition follows the essence of the “Nara-Haku Zanmai” exhibition and introduces the “All things” of Nara National Museum, with over 200 items from the museum's superb collection of Buddhist art, including 8 national treasures and 93 important cultural properties, against the backdrop of the cultural climate of Hokuriku and Ishikawa, where Buddhism is deeply rooted in religious faith.
