■Tour the Studio, Then Try Flat Inlay Yourself
Kaga inlay (Kaga zogan) is a traditional Kanazawa art: one metal is embedded into another with no gaps, like a seamless puzzle. Your classroom is the Kazawa Bisho Studio — whose works are displayed at Kanazawa Station, one of the most beautiful stations in the world — where a first-class artisan teaches you one-to-one.
After a tour of the workshop, used by the family for generations, you will try hirazogan (flat inlay): fitting sheets of silver and copper into a brass plate. The artisans guide you with easy-to-understand panels they made themselves, so anyone can enjoy the process. Your piece is then beautifully finished with the techniques of a master silversmith (shiroganeshi).
Take your finished work home as a keychain or a necklace. The workshop also sells its pieces — why not find a favorite as a memento of the day?
Your teachers are the artisans of Kazawa Bisho Studio, including third-generation master silversmith Kaori Kazawa.
