Kanazawa's traditional crafts Hands-on Kaga Inlay Tour
The Magic of Metal Inlay: A Private Masterclass with a Kanazawa Artisan
Hands-on Kaga Inlay Tour
Experience the 'Magic of Metal Inlay' at the renowned Kazawa Bishō Studio—whose works grace Kanazawa Station—as you enjoy a private lesson from a master craftsman, learning to carve and inlay metals into a seamless, silky-smooth masterpiece.
【 Experience 】
After touring the workshop, which has been used by our family for generations, you will experience the technique called Hirazōgan (flat inlay). This involves embedding sheets of silver and copper into a brass plate.
Our artisans will guide you through the process using easy-to-understand explanatory panels they have crafted themselves, ensuring a fun experience for everyone.
The piece you create will then be beautifully finished using the techniques of a Master Silversmith (Shiroganeshi).
The workshop also offers products for sale. Why not select a favorite item as a memento of your visit?
We recommend taking your finished work home as a keychain or a necklace!
【 Guide introduction 】
Silversmith: Kaori Kagawa
As the third-generation Master Silversmith (Shiroganeshi) at Kazawa Bisho Kobo (Workshop), the artisan creates a wide array of beautiful works, ranging from the Kugikakushi (decorative nail covers) used in temples and historical buildings, to fittings for tea and incense ceremonies, and pendants.
In each of these soulfully crafted pieces, you can witness the polished techniques that have been honed over generations.
Craftman: Akie Kiyota
As a craftsman at Kazawa Bisho Kobo, the artisan personally handles customer interactions and provides detailed instruction during the experience.
With the desire to connect with international tourists and share Kaga Metal Inlay, they are working hard to master English. Their bright and dedicated spirit shines through!
