■Cycling the "Water Fortress"

This cycling tour explores the remnants of the "Water Fortress" of Kanazawa Castle — the castle built by the Kaga Hyakumangoku domain, woven together with the irrigation canals drawn from the Sai and Asano Rivers. As you cycle, you'll learn how the castle town of Kanazawa prospered by harnessing water, and uncover the grand historical tales hidden within the city's streets, interwoven with stories of samurai life and little-known anecdotes.

Choose from two courses. The Compact Course (approx. 15 km), focused on the Kanazawa Castle area: Kanazawa Station, Nagamachi Samurai District, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Oyama Shrine, Nezumitamon Gate, Gyokuseninmaru Garden and Higashi Chaya District. Or the Wide Course (approx. 18 km), covering the whole castle town: Kanazawa Station, Nagamachi Samurai District, 21st Century Museum, Kanazawa Shrine, Tendokuin Temple, Hosenji Temple and Higashi Chaya District.

Your guide is Hideaki Matsuta of Breathing SHIRAYAMA, a certified guide of the Japan Mountain Guides Association and a Ministry of the Environment nature instructor who shares Ishikawa's nature, history and culture through outdoor activities.

・Meeting point: Konohanamachi Ryokuchi (10-7 Konohana-machi, Kanazawa).

・Conditions: able to ride a bicycle, confident in your physical fitness, and at least 140 cm tall.

・Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

・Please bring appropriate cycling clothing, shoes and a towel, and arrange your own insurance.

・If the tour is cancelled due to rain, we will contact you before 17:00 the day before and refund you in full.
