Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the town and refresh your mind to the sound of Kaga Furin wind chimes
Experience creating your own glass wind chime in a quiet and cozy space in a historical district
Teramachiya Fushin-an is a 100-year-old Kanazawa townhouse that was renovated in 2017. Located on the top of a hill looking over the banks of the Sai River, it’s close to the historical district of Teramachi, filled with Buddhist temples such as the famous Ninja Temple, one of Kanazawa’s most popular sightseeing spots. Stepping inside the house, you will find yourself surrounded by an impressive and delightful collection of more than a hundred different kinds of chimes from all around the country. Kaga Furin is the local name given to glass wind chimes, a popular craft in the region. Beautifully designed, they indeed produce wonderfully calming and refreshing sounds. People in Japan like to hang them at doors and windows in the summer, having the bells gently swing and ting in the cool breeze.
In this charming and relaxing environment, you are invited to attend a hands-on painting experience and design yourself the glass wind chime of your wishes. Choosing from two different types of glass, you will then paint the design you come up with from the inside, to protect it from the damage of time, before tying the glass and bell with string.
The perfect activity for a rainy day and for those traveling with children, this simple and relaxing hands-on experience is sure to provide wonderful moments and a great souvenir from your stay in Kanazawa, all at an affordable price.
