Private Tea Ceremony — Morning to Evening, 100-Year Machiya in Nishi Chaya near the Ninja Temple
Watch a real tea ceremony performed just for you in a century-old machiya. From ¥7,700 per person. Choose morning, afternoon, or golden hour — the space is yours, no other guests.
Slip away from the crowds into a tea master’s home — a restored 100-year machiya a short walk from Nishi Chaya and Myoryu-ji (the Ninja Temple).
In about 45 minutes, you’ll sit in the tea room while your host Yuta performs a full tea ceremony in front of you. No rushing, no group rotation — every movement, from folding the cloth to whisking the matcha, is carried out at its natural pace while you watch, listen, and absorb.
Yuta is a Kanazawa native with 19 years of practice in the Enshu-ryu tradition, rooted in samurai culture. His guidance is in clear English — direct, warm, and welcoming whether you know nothing about tea or have always been curious.
You’ll enjoy seasonal wagashi handcrafted by Kanazawa artisans alongside your matcha. We’ll take photos on your device in the tea room. Choose your time: early morning before the crowds, midday between sights, or golden hour before dinner.
This is a watching-and-savoring experience. If you’d like to whisk your own matcha and go deeper, ask us about our 70-minute hands-on ceremony.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY
“Autentica e bellissima cerimonia del té. Se si vuol fare un esperienza autentica ed unica consiglio caldamente di prenotare qui. Yuta poi è una persona straordinaria. Straconsigliato.” — A.H., Italy
“TheWe had a lovely tea ceremony with tea master Yuta in his 100 year old home. Beautiful to watch him prepare tea the traditional way. We also learned a great deal about the history behind the tea ceremony and would highly recommend this experience!.” — S.C., Netherlands
“We had the most brilliant tea ceremony conducted by Yuta san & Tea Base in his quaint family home in the Nishi Chaya District of Kanazawa. This was one the the highlights of the trip for us my wife and I were transported back in time to witness what felt like a truly authentic matcha tea ceremony. The atmosphere was lovely and warm. The tea tasted great and the level of concentration Yuta displayed was astonishing! What was great was that we got an opportunity to make tea ourselves and delight in a Japanese sweet snack too. The bowls we whisked our matcha in were beautifully handcrafted too. At the end we got plenty of opportunity to ask questions to Yuta about Japanese culture and the "old ways" Vs the new. Splendid.!” — O.C., United Kingdom
