Private Hands-On Tea Ceremony — Whisk Your Own Matcha, 100-Year Machiya in Nishi Chaya, near the Ninja Temple
Watch, then do it yourself. A 70-minute private ceremony where you observe the tea master and then whisk your own bowl of matcha. From ¥11,000per person in a 100-year machiya, Nishi Chaya.
This is the full experience. In 70 minutes, you’ll first watch a complete tea ceremony performed by your host — then pick up the whisk and make a bowl of matcha yourself, guided step by step.
The ceremony takes place in a restored century-old machiya, a short walk from Nishi Chaya and Myoryu-ji (the Ninja Temple). The space is entirely yours — no other guests, no shared groups.
Your host Yuta is a Kanazawa native with 19 years of practice in the Enshu-ryu tradition, rooted in samurai culture. His English guidance is clear and unhurried. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who’s always wanted to try, he’ll make you feel at ease.
The matcha is sourced in small lots for depth and clarity of flavor. Dry sweets (higashi) are served alongside — traditional Kanazawa confections that pair with thin tea. We’ll take photos on your device throughout.
Choose your time: early morning, midday, or golden hour. Same-day booking available.
For those who’d like a shorter, observation-focused experience, we also offer a 45-minute ceremony (from ¥7,700/person).

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY
“The matcha experience here is truly special, as the atmosphere of a tea room in an actual home is different from that in a tourist establishment. And Yuta-san is very kind and passionate about the art of the tea ceremony, it's wonderful to watch him perform the ceremony and drink his tea. That this experience is also possible for a single person if also very good, I enjoyed it very much and had a lot of fun learning about the tea ceremony and trying to make matcha myself. Thank you!”— Y.W., Germany
“We had an excellent time with Yuta-san! The ceremony was serene and peaceful and Yuta-san patiently answered all our questions. We would highly recommend this to anyone in Kanazawa who wants to experience a tea ceremony. Yuta-san, if you are ever in Mumbai, please do reach out to us and we would love to take you around. ありがとうございます.” — A.M., India
“
Se si vuole provare una tipica dimostrazione del servizio del te, questo è il posto giusto!

Vorremmo scrivere con più dettagli, ma non vorremmo rovinarvi la bellissima esperienza!
