Private Japanese Calligraphy Class in the Heart of Kanazawa!
A Mindful Japanese Calligraphy Experience. Write Your Very Own Name in Kanjis!
Calligraphy is an important art form in Japan with a long history. It originated shortly after the introduction of the Chinese writing system, and even today, every child must learn these skills throughout their school years. People believe that you can tell a person's character by how they write and that you can feel the emotions the writer was experiencing when looking at a character.
Join us for this calligraphy class and learn how to write your name in Japanese! The instructor will select Japanese characters with beautiful meanings to form your name.
After practicing writing your own name, if time allows, you can choose a character that reflects how you feel that day. For example, “桜” (cherry blossom) after a day of flower viewing, or “風” (wind) on a hot day.
About the Calligraphy Experience
In this experience, we use materials from Ishikawa Prefecture as much as possible, or items sourced locally within the prefecture.
The instructor has been selected for and awarded prizes at public exhibitions in all five basic calligraphy styles, and has over ten years of teaching experience. The class is conducted under the motto, “Learning through play, and playing through calligraphy.
Location
The studio is located just a short walk from Kanazawa Station (about 10 min), in a quiet but charming shopping street next to the Higashibetsuin Temple. It’s a perfect location for you to explore the local community before or after the class. It is also a 5-minute walk from Omicho Market, and about a 20-minute walk from Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle.

Notes:
・Regarding small children:
This is a very kid-friendly class, so please feel free to bring them! For children under 5, since calligraphy with normal ink might be difficult. For young children, we use a special water-based calligraphy set instead of ink, allowing them to write safely with water.
・You will be writing with ink, and it might stain your clothes, so please wear something that you don't mind getting dirty.
How about a class to create an unforgettable memory to bring back home with you? We are looking forward to seeing you at the class!
