Kanazawa Premium Cultural Experience: World-Class Taiko & Sake Brewery Dining
A rare opportunity to discover the cultural roots of Kanazawa through taiko drumming, sake, and cuisine.
Beyond Kanazawa – Discover the “Invisible Foundations” of the Kaga Domain
Kanazawa’s refined culture and aesthetics did not emerge by chance. What truly supported the power and prosperity of the Kaga Domain—wealth, technology, or the spirit of the samurai?
On this special cultural tour, you will venture beyond central Kanazawa to places that are difficult to access independently. With comfortable transportation by a professional driver and clear guidance from a local interpreter, you will gain insight into the deep historical and cultural connections that shaped Kanazawa’s unique heritage.
One of the highlights of the tour is a visit to Asano Taiko, a world-renowned taiko drum maker with over 400 years of history. You will observe master craftsmen at work, enjoy a live performance by a professional taiko drummer, and take part in a hands-on drumming experience. These techniques originate from leatherworking once used in samurai armor, and their cultural significance can still be seen today in Kanazawa Station’s iconic “Tsuzumi Gate,” inspired by Noh drums cherished by the lords of the Kaga Domain.
The tour concludes with a refined dining experience at a restaurant renovated from an actual sake brewery. Here, you will enjoy local cuisine paired with sake, including “Kaga no Kikuzake,” a historic brew once favored by feudal lords during seasonal gatherings such as cherry blossom viewing. Through this experience, you will gain a deeper understanding of the local resources—such as rice and water—that supported Kanazawa’s culture and economy.
This tour is ideal for travelers seeking more than sightseeing. Guided by a knowledgeable interpreter, you will experience how taiko, sake, and cuisine come together to tell the story of Kanazawa’s history and culture.
