Daytime Private Tea Ceremony in a 100-Year Machiya — Nishi Chaya / Ninja Temple (10:00–15:00 starts)

Take a calm one-hour break in a private 100-year machiya near Nishi Chaya and the Ninja Temple. Clear English guidance and rare, high-quality matcha prepared with care—many guests describe the experience as “calming,” “deeply relaxing,” and “almost medita

Description

Slip out of the crowds and into a quiet Kanazawa townhouse. Hosted in the tea master’s real home—a restored century-old machiya a short walk from Nishi Chaya and Myōryū-ji (the “Ninja Temple”)—this is a fully private ceremony designed for travelers who value craft, context, and calm.

In about 60 minutes, you’ll learn the essentials of Japanese tea: the meaning behind the movements, how to appreciate the utensils, and how to whisk and savor a bowl of rare, high-quality matcha (sourced in small lots for depth and clarity of flavor) with seasonal sweets. The pacing is unhurried so you can focus—sound, scent, light, texture—while we keep everything simple in clear English.

Guests often leave feeling settled and refreshed, calling the time “calming,” “relaxing,” and “like meditation.” Our staff will take photos for you on your device and share them after the session.

Good to know: Private group up to 10.

Ages 3+ (infants may accompany).

Chairs available if tatami sitting is difficult. Please wear socks. Quiet residential lane—arrive on time and keep voices low outside.
