Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku
Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku is a private, whole-house accommodation in an authentic machiya more than 150 years old and registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
The exact year of construction is unknown. The surviving property record shows an initial ownership registration in 1888, but this does not represent the year in which the house was built. Its history and architectural characteristics suggest that the machiya dates from the late Edo or early Meiji period. According to the history passed down with the house, it was once the home of an ashigaru, a lower-ranking samurai serving the Kaga Domain.
Located approximately five minutes on foot from Kanazawa Station, the property welcomes only one group at a time. Guests can experience the atmosphere of historic Kanazawa while enjoying modern comforts, including a kitchen, private bathroom, laundry facilities, floor heating, free Wi-Fi and complimentary parking.
