Hakusan Alpine Botanical Garden

Open only once a year for about six weeks from early June to mid-July, when the alpine flowers are at their peak, this seasonal botanical garden offers a truly special experience. Located near the summit of Mt. Nishiyama (857m), it provides stunning views of Mt. Hakusan—one of Japan’s “Three Sacred Mountains,” along with Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tateyama.
In the garden, you can admire around 50 varieties and 100,000 alpine plants in bloom. While enjoying the scenery, you can also savor a local rice ball (onigiri) bento filled with the rich flavors of the Hakusan foothills.

Shiramine – Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings

Visit the Shiramine district, located in one of Japan’s heaviest snowfall regions. Here, unique architectural styles developed to withstand the harsh winter climate have been carefully preserved and passed down through generations.
Designated in 2012 by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, this historic area offers a charming streetscape full of character and tradition.

Michi-no-Eki Sena (Roadside Station)

We will stop at the popular roadside station “Sena,” where you can enjoy shopping for local specialties and souvenirs. From well-known local products such as “Hakusan Hyakusen” to a wide variety of regional goods, you can experience the flavors and culture of the Hakusan area through its products.

Yamazato no Omusubi Bento (Countryside Rice Ball Lunch)

Enjoy a special “Yamazato no Omusubi Bento,” filled with the natural bounty of the Hakusan region. This lunch features local delicacies such as char (iwana fish), wild boar, mountain vegetables, nameko mushrooms, and traditional firm tofu.
The highlight is three types of rice balls made from locally grown rice, known for their soft texture and natural sweetness.
The meal is served in a traditional bamboo-leaf lunch box, making it easy to carry and perfect for enjoying in the great outdoors.
