■Learning to "Read" a Japanese Garden
Many visitors find Japanese gardens breathtaking, yet wonder what they are really looking at. In this exclusive experience, world-renowned Kanazawa landscape gardener Kurato Fujimoto explains it all in person.
Fujimoto helps maintain celebrated gardens across Kanazawa, including Kenrokuen, and in Washington, D.C. he is entrusted with the care and preservation of the historic cherry trees at the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. National Arboretum.
He reveals the hidden dialogues between stone, water and trees, how to appreciate each garden tree, and the tools of the trade — from pruning shears to saws. The venue is a garden in Kanazawa, such as Kenrokuen or the Tsujike Garden, arranged to your wishes.
Held July–March; not held April–June (the gardener is in the United States caring for the cherry trees). Start time between 8:00 and 16:00, by arrangement. Interpreter guide included (English).
