【Higashi Chaya District Area】
Higashi Chaya District, one of Kanazawa's most popular sightseeing spots, is crowded with tourists during the day, but at night the quiet alleys lit by gas lamps are extremely photogenic. How about a warm bowl of oden after a bit of a night breeze?
◆AMIYA ~Kanazawa oden, Wajima puffer fish~
The owner, who is from Noto Peninsura, sources puffer fish from Wajima through his own routes, as well as a selection of Noto's local sake.11:00 - closes when sold out *Open days vary depending on the day, see Instagram @higashiyama_amiya.
A sake bar where you can enjoy delicious sake, oden and other a la carte dishes from noon. Lunch is also available. Tell them your sake preferences and they will prepare a sake to match. Mon 11:30-16:00, Wed-Sun 11:30-19:00 *Closed Tuesdays.
A restaurant in a converted townhouse on the opposite side of the road from Higashi Chaya District. Popular for its homely cooking using Kaga and other specialities. 11:30-15:00, 17:30-22:00 *closed irregularly.
◆Cho-bei
Located near the intersection of Hashiba, just before crossing the Asanogawa Bridge. Crowded with regulars every night. 17:30-23:00 *Closed on Sundays and Mondays that are public holidays.
【Omicho Market Area】
Known as ‘Kanazawa's kitchen’, Omicho Market offers a wide variety of fresh seafood and local vegetables. The market is a favourite spot for tourists and locals alike, where you can enjoy a variety of gourmet delights such as Kanazawa Oden as well as Kaisendon and Kanazawa Curry.

◆Amatsubo
A restaurant open in the evening in Omicho, where many shops close before 4:00 p.m. 11:30-14:00 (L.O.13:30), 17:00-22:00 (L.O.21:30), 17:00-21:30 *Sunday closed.
On the basement floor of the department store Mza, which stands in front of Omicho Market. Conveniently open in the evenings when Omicho Market has quieted down and is connected to Omicho Market underground. 11:00-15:00, 17:00-20:00.
Located on the main street from the station towards Omicho Market, past the Higashi Honganji Kanazawa Betsuin Temple, it is popular for its atmospheric exterior and interior, which has been converted from an old private house. Long-established oden shop established in 1935. The shop is located in a relatively tourist-free area, about 10 minutes' walk from the Kenrokuen Kodatsuno Exit. The brewery and shop of the famous Kanazawa sake brewery Fukumitsuya are located nearby, and Fukumitsuya sake can be enjoyed in the shop. 【Katamachi・Korinbo Area(downtown area)】
- Kanazawa's most prosperous shopping area, located in the heart of the city. The Korinbo area has a history of prosperity as a key transport hub since the Edo period and is now lined with commercial facilities such as Korinbo Yamato, and is busy day and night near the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa Castle and the Nagamachi samurai residences. The Katamachi area is quiet during the day with few people walking around, but at night it is lively with many shops open until late. You can have a good meal at the first shop, or have a light snack of oden at the second shop.
