Where to Eat Kanazawa-Style Oden: A Guide by Area (2026 Edition)
Kanazawa-style oden is a local specialty featuring regional ingredients such as kuruma-fu (wheat gluten shaped like a wheel), akamaki (red-and-white fish cake), bai-gai (Japanese sea snails), and kanimen (snow crab served in its shell), simmered in each restaurant’s own dashi broth, a savory Japanese stock.
This guide introduces restaurants by area, from Katamachi and Korinbo, where many long-established oden restaurants can be found, to Kanazawa Station, which is convenient for travelers, and Omicho Market and Higashi Chaya District, where you can enjoy food and drinks during the day.

Established in 1874. Restaurant and souvenir shop located in front of the symbol of Kenrokuen Garden, the Kotji Lantern. 11:00-14:00 *Closed on Wednesdays.
Long-established oden shop established in 1935. The shop is located in a relatively tourist-free area, about 10 minutes' walk from the Kenrokuen Kodatsuno Exit. The brewery and shop of the famous Kanazawa sake brewery Fukumitsuya are located nearby, and Fukumitsuya sake can be enjoyed in the shop. Katamachi and Korinbo Area (downtown area)
Located in central Kanazawa, this area is the city's main entertainment and shopping district.
Korinbo has a long history as an important transportation hub dating back to the Edo period (1603–1868). Today, it is home to commercial facilities such as Korinbo Daiwa department store. It is also close to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa Castle Park, and the Nagamachi Samurai District. The area is lively both day and night.
Katamachi is generally quieter during the day, but becomes a bustling nightlife district, with many restaurants and bars staying open late.
Whether you want a full dinner at your first stop or a light serving of oden at your second, this area offers plenty of options.

Established in 1934, Kikuichi is a long-standing oden restaurant. It is known as the birthplace of kanimen, a seasonal dish made with female snow crab served in its shell. Lines often form before opening on weekends.

Located in Korinbo, this restaurant serves oden, obanzai (traditional home-style Japanese side dishes), and Japanese sake. Its menu includes unusual oden ingredients and a wide variety of small dishes, many of which pair particularly well with sake. Its gentle, comforting flavors, prepared without chemical seasonings, are one of its attractions.

Established in 1936, Takasago is a long-standing oden restaurant. Unlike the typical style found in Kanazawa, it uses a broth influenced by Kanto-style oden from eastern Japan. Its menu also features distinctive dishes such as doteyaki (beef tendon simmered in a rich miso-based sauce) and curry-flavored oden.

Established in 1822 as the first Kutani ware merchant house, more than 200 years ago. The museum has a restaurant serving Kutani ware, as well as a shop and workshop. 10:00-18:00. *Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Higashi Chaya District, one of Kanazawa's most popular sightseeing spots, is crowded with tourists during the day, but at night the quiet alleys lit by gas lamps are extremely photogenic. How about a warm bowl of oden after a bit of a night breeze?
◆AMIYA ～Kanazawa oden, Wajima puffer fish～

Known as ‘Kanazawa's kitchen’, Omicho Market offers a wide variety of fresh seafood and local vegetables. The market is a favourite spot for tourists and locals alike, where you can enjoy a variety of gourmet delights such as Kanazawa Oden as well as Kaisendon and Kanazawa Curry.

On the basement floor of the department store Mza, which stands in front of Omicho Market. Conveniently open in the evenings when Omicho Market has quieted down and is connected to Omicho Market underground. 11:00-21:00.
Located on the main street from the station towards Omicho Market, past the Higashi Honganji Kanazawa Betsuin Temple, it is popular for its atmospheric exterior and interior, which has been converted from an old private house.
