Uchinada Coast
The closest beach to Kanazawa
Uchinada Beach, crowded with marine sports and bathers, boasts a 200-meter-long sandy beach that stretches all the way to the edge of the waves. It is said to be one of the three largest sand dunes in Japan, next to the Tottori Sand Dunes, and has been selected as one of the "100 Best Pleasure Beaches" by the Ministry of the Environment.
The "World Kite Festival" held on the dunes in early May every year is a major event that attracts as many as 30,000 kite lovers and visitors from all over Japan as well as the local area.
Numerous literary figures have fallen in love with the history and climate of the dunes and have depicted Uchinada in their works. Such as Yasushi Inoue, Hiroyuki Itsuki, Yukio Mishima, Akiko Yosano, Kyoko Takahama, Takako Ashida (a poet from Kanazawa City)...
