A Japanese orchestra performed by geisha at the West Geisha Call Office, a private facility in Nishi Chaya District, Kanazawa
A special program in which you can view the Kanazawa Subayashi Japanese orchestra and playful geisha ozashiki daiko drumming up close!
View the Kanazawa Subayashi Japanese orchestra, a rare opportunity for tourists, and experience ozashiki daiko drumming, which is synonymous with teahouse entertainment. The event will take place in the West Geisha Call Office, a registered tangible cultural property of Japan, constructed in 1922 as a training facility and management office for the geisha of Nishi Chaya District. Its Western-style design has a symbolic existence that draws attention within Nishi Chaya District, and the building is not normally open to the public.
Kanazawa Subayashi is one of the traditional performing arts of Kaga Hyakumangoku, and its regional characteristics are prominent within the performance. The front row consists of the musical accompaniment (taiko, oukawa and kotsuzumi drums, flute), and the back row consists of vocals and shamisen (3-stringed plucked instrument). It’s one of the highest quality performing arts in Japan due to its level of refinement, elegance, beauty and magnificence, and excellent technique.
